Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister

Susan E. (Rice) Gainer, age 70 of Sudbury, passed away at Emerson Hospital on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Mark R. Gainer Sr.

Born in Boston, on January 4, 1948. Sue grew up in Lincoln, MA on Winter Street where she had the opportunity to let her free spirit explore and roam through the beautifully cultivated gardens created by her parents, James F. and Barbara (Clemons) Rice, who have predeceased her. Sue had four younger siblings, Barbara, James, Laura, and John. Sue's brother, James (Jimmy) recently passed away on February 3, 2018.

Sue married her high school sweetheart, Mark Gainer. They raised four children, Marianne, Susanne, Mark Jr. and Elizabeth in Sudbury, MA. Sue's role in life was that of a caregiver. When she wasn't raising her children, she was working as a nanny or as a nurse's assistant in a nursing facility or home setting. Sue met her best friend Chrysta Paynton when she worked in a nursing facility in Sudbury, MA. Sue and Chrysta had many laughs and shared many memorable moments together.

Sue will be missed by her three siblings, beloved husband and four children, as well as her two son in-laws, Dennis O'Rourke and Richard Thoman, daughter in-law Gretchen Gainer, and eight grandchildren: Conor and Dylan Harris, Aiden and Devin O'Rourke, Lillian, Shannon, and Jake Gainer, as well as Allyson Thoman. Sue will also be missed by brother in-laws: Carl Gainer, Steve Gillig, Greg Popa, Claude Maillet, and sister in-laws Janet Gainer and Linda Gillig.

Thanks to the devoted staff at the Emerson Hospital Critical Care Unit, Sue was provided with the loving and nurturing care she always demonstrated as a caregiver, which allowed her to peacefully pass and join her parents and younger brother, Jimmy.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Sue on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St., Maynard. Her funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be private at Lincoln Cemetery.
