Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather

March Grindall Purinton Jr., age 94, of Stow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 18, 2018. He was the loving husband of sixty-nine years to Marion C. (Hojem) Purinton.

Born in Concord on March 19, 1924, he was the son of the late March Grindall Sr. and Olga (Thoresen) Purinton. March was raised and educated in Concord, graduating from Concord High School, class of 1942. Upon graduation, March joined the United States Navy and proudly served his Country in WWII from March 1, 1943 to February 19, 1946 as a Radioman.

March and Marion married on May 5, 1949 and settled in Concord where they raised their family. March was a member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church for more than eighty years. He served as a Deacon and Moderator and was on the Building Committee for the current location in Acton.

After the war, March learned the trade of electrician and worked for A. R. Macleod and Sons, a local electrical contractor in Concord. He then worked as an electrician for Arthur D. Little Inc. for twenty five years before retiring in 1986.

Family was most important to March. He cherished his camping trips across country in his fifth wheel camper, especially his time spent at the Grand Canyon. He enjoyed boating and fishing in his 1962 Aerocaft with his ten horsepower Evinrude outboard engine. He also enjoyed working on his antique cane chairs.

He is survived by his loving wife Marion C. Purinton of Stow: his three children; Karen and husband Peter Hanson of Concord, David and wife Kim Purinton of Devens and Carl and wife Susan Purinton of Maynard; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Richard N. Purinton and great grandson Andrew P. Burgher.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember March on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. A Funeral Service celebrating March's life will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 54 Hosmer Street, Acton MA. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 34 Bedford St, Concord, MA.

Donations in his memory may be made to: Joni and Friends, P. O. Box 3333, Agoura Hills, CA 91376-3333 or Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham MA 02452.

My condolences to the Puritan family. So many memories are flooding back of March and Marion along with their children and the Evangelical Church on Lang Street, Concord. March had such a wonderful personality, always had a smile on his face, if I remember correctly he had a great singing voice.
We were a very close knitted community back then. God Speed March, we will all meet again some day. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

We were very sorry to hear about Dave's dad. While we didn't know him, we know he must have been a great man to have raised such a fine son! Our thoughts and prayers are with entire Purinton family throughout this difficult time! - Our Love to All. Bob & Lori

I remember in the year of 1999 I put up a notice on the church bullition board for babysitting. And March told his son Carl about me that I was looking for babysitting job. So Carl and his wife Sue tried me out for a week and their 2 boys Ethan and Corey like me and I got the job and babysat the boys and help gave them rides to school and places for about 10 to 12 years. And I know the whole family for 19 years know next year will be 20 years with the family. I will miss March but I know he is happy in HEAVEN and with his great grandson Andrew.
