Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother

Joan S. (Kennedy) Johnson, age 89 of Acton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. She was the loving wife of the late Roland W. Johnson.

Born in Yonkers, New York on September 17, 1929, Joan was the daughter of the late Albert S. and Beatrice M. (Amazeen) Kennedy. Joan was raised and educated in New York City, graduating from High School in 1947. Her family moved to Sudbury, MA and Joan went on to attend Lasell College in Newton, MA where she received her Associates Degree in fashion illustration. Joan and Roland met on the train while traveling in to Boston. The couple married on June 16, 1951. They settled in Acton and raised their family.

Joan was an avid reader. She enjoyed painting, antiquing and cross-country skiing. She was an active member of the Acton Women's Club for many years. Joan and Roland loved to go ballroom dancing. They also enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe.

She is survived by her children Arthur Johnson and wife Jeanne Horner of Ashland, MA; Diane and husband Paul Anderson of Holden, MA; grandchildren Karl, Sarah, Erik and Emily; great grandchildren Norah and Connor.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Joan on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord Street, Maynard. Burial will be private.

So sorry to learn of your mother's passing. I'll always remember her as a very sweet woman who loved to talk and who also loved the Red Sox. I enjoyed learning more about her background and interests. I think her artistic background might have been passed down to Art and Erik.

What a wonderful legacy she left in her children and grand children, and now, great grandchildren. Thinking of all of you at this time. I hope you find comfort in family and friends, sharing your memories of her. Healing comes in those tender and funny stories.
